World Smile Day: Praise and work mates give UK employees the smile factor

Brits have revealed their top reasons for smiling at work, in a new research poll by Monster.co.uk. Receiving praise (19%) and having good work mates (19%) are the things most likely to make them smile at the office.

Notably, flexible working hours (15%) was cited as more likely to make people smile compared to a pay rise (12%). A supportive mentor also proved a worthy asset for British workers, with one in six (16%) believing have a big impact on how much they smile at work.

The statistics come in light of World Smile Day that takes place this Friday 7th October.

Andy Sumner, Managing Director for Monster UK & Ireland, commented; “Our research indicates that receiving work compliments and praise, as well as having friends at work, are the top reasons for workers cracking a smile in the office. Smiling can reduce stress and increase your energy levels, so this World Smile Day we’re encouraging businesses to surprise employees with random acts of kindness and bring cheer to their workforce.”
